Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.NKJV
Faith is the substance of things hoped for. Hope is not just a preferred future. Hope is an anticipated future, an expected future. Faith exists where that which you do not yet experience, but fully expect to experience become so real that the future reality has substance in the present. Faith is able to presently see a future reality.
Faith is the evidence of things not seen. “Things not seen” refers to natural sight. We cannot yet see with our natural eyes that which we are anticipating. But by faith I am able to see that which I am expecting. I am able to see with such clarity that what I see is admitted as evidence. We are able to testify of what we have seen with our natural eyes. This testimony is legitimate evidence. The writer of Hebrews is saying that what we see with the eyes of faith is just as real. I have evidence of the future fulfillment of God’s promise in my life because of what I see by faith. Faith is able to presently see a future reality and this vision is as reliable and trustworthy as anything we might see presently with our natural eyes, maybe more.
What do you see?
